Boycott War of the Worlds

I am a movie buff, I love going to see movies. I was really looking forward to seeing War of the Worlds; the trailers have been fantastic.

However, I was listening to Matt Lauer interview Tom Cruise this morning regarding his stance of psychiatric drugs (in light of the Brooke Shields controversy), and I am fed up. Tom Cruise says he, “Has studied the history of psychiatry,” and that there, “Is no such thing as a chemical imbalance.” People should just take vitamins and do like the scientologists say. There are tons of sites out there about the deaths of scientologists who stopped taking their medications and went to the vitamin regimen.

I am tired of entertainers using their celebrity status to preach their views–whether it be politics, medicine, etc. They are actors, and they aren’t paid because of their knowledge & wisdom; their careers are based on looking pretty and speaking a few lines each day. (and yes, I will concede that being under constant public scrutiny make lifes difficult)

My real fear would be that someone hears Tom Cruise spouting his scientology propaganda and actually stop taking a much-needed medication and then cause harm to her/himself & others.

So, I’m not going to see War of the Worlds. I am not going to rent the movie.
